Guide
The ad account protection guide for agencies.
This ad account protection guide covers the common reasons Meta ad accounts get restricted, a checklist to lower the risk, and what to do if it happens. Platform rules change, so check the current policies before you rely on any detail here.
Why ad accounts get restricted
Platforms rarely explain every decision, but the same causes come up again and again:
- Policy problems in ads or landing pages. Claims, images or products that break advertising rules.
- Payment trouble. Failed payments, disputed charges or a payment method that gets flagged.
- Security signals. Sign-ins from new places or devices, or access shared between many people.
- Sudden changes. A new account that spends a lot very quickly, or large jumps in budget.
- Connected problems. A restriction on one account, page or business can spread to related ones.
A prevention checklist
- Keep the business manager owned by the client’s business, with your agency added as a partner, not the other way round.
- Have at least two trusted admins so access never depends on one person.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for everyone with access.
- Complete business verification where the platform offers it.
- Keep a backup payment method and watch for failed payments.
- Read the advertising policies for the client’s category before you build the creative, and review landing pages against them too.
- Raise budgets in steps rather than large jumps.
- Keep a log of changes, so you can show what happened if you need to appeal.
If an account is restricted
- Stop and read the notice. Note exactly what the platform says and which policy it cites.
- Fix what you can. Remove or change the ads or pages the notice points to.
- Use the platform’s own appeal and support routes. Be specific, polite and brief, and attach what you gathered.
- Tell your client early. Plain facts and a plan are better than silence.
- Do not open replacement accounts to get around the restriction. It usually breaks the rules and can make the original problem worse.
Make it routine
Protection works best as a habit: a short review each month of access, payments, policy risks and recent changes. That review is what our ad account protection service does, with a written recovery plan on top.
